If you would like to be a PKC Show Site or a PKC Obedience Trial Site, please find out about applying.

Obedience Trials are a fairly new thing at PKC. Dogz complete a variety of tasks like Sit Stay and Recall and you take pictures of them doing this. Judges then mark the dogz on how well they have completed the task.

Novice Trials

Dogz without 3 OD points are Novices and they compete in the Novice ring.

There are five categories here - all of the fairly basic but they are skills your dogz should know. OD points are awarded.

Sit Stay
Dog sits facing front and camera with all four feet on the ground.
Down Stay
Dog lies sideways on to the camera with all four feet flat on the ground.
Stand for Exam
Basically a show pose. Dog should face camera but have body sideways on. Both eyes should be visible. Legs should be straight with feet together (only two feet should be visible). Tail should be up and chest should be puffed out.
Recall
Dog runs fast and eagerly from left to right, body and head sideways on to camera. the one eye should be looking at camera.
Trick
Dogz performs a trick. trick will be marked on originality and difficulty. Toys are allowed in picture if they are involved in the trick.

Open Trials

Dogz with 3 OD points are OD dogz and compete in the Open ring.

Again there are five categories - some slightly more difficult that the Novice classes. ODX points are awarded.

Retrieve on Flat
The same rules as Recall, but the dog has a bone in its mouth.
High Jump
Dog jumps right to left over the basket.
Broad Jump
Dog jumps right to left over two touching cushions.
Recall
Dog runs fast and eagerly from left to right, body and head sideways on to camera. the one eye should be looking at camera.
Stand for Exam
Basically a show pose. Dog should face camera but have body sideways on. Both eyes should be visible. Legs should be straight with feet together (only two feet should be visible). Tail should be up and chest should be puffed out.

Judging

All categories are worth 20 points, so the dogz get a mark out of 100 in total.

The top four dogz are ranked 1-4 and get 1 Point each. If 20 or more dogz are entered, 2 Honourable Mentions are awarded, each earning 1 Point. If 30 or more dogz are entered, 4 Honourable Mentions are awarded, each earning 1 Point.

When a Novice dogz gets 3 OD Points it can Register for an OD (Obedience Dogz) certificate that allows it to compete in the Open Trials.

When an Open dogz gets 3 ODX Points it can Register for an ODX (Obedience Dogz of Excellence).
